How the Apex Series Handles Contour Cutting for Vehicle Wrap Production
Apex Series Contour Cutting for Vehicle Wraps
Vehicle wrap production demands precision that manual cutting cannot consistently deliver. The CUTWORX USA Apex Series addresses this with optical registration that reads printed marks and automatically compensates for film stretch and distortion.
The Vehicle Wrap Cutting Challenge
Wrap films are dimensionally unstable. Heat, humidity, and the printing process itself introduce stretch and distortion that makes mechanical registration unreliable. A cutter that assumes the film is perfectly square will produce cuts that do not align with the printed graphics.
Optical Registration Solution
The Apex Series uses camera-based optical registration to identify printed registration marks and calculate the actual position of the graphic on the film. The cutting toolpath is then adjusted to match the actual print, not the theoretical position.
This approach eliminates the alignment errors that cause visible miscuts on finished wraps. For shops producing high volumes of vehicle graphics, the reduction in waste and rework represents significant cost savings.
Integration with Print Workflow
The Apex Series integrates with leading RIP software including Onyx, Caldera, and EFI Fiery, allowing the cutting file to be generated directly from the print workflow without manual file preparation.
