Banner Printing Production Tips: Media Selection, Finishing, and Quality Control
Banner Printing Production Tips
Banners remain one of the highest-volume products in wide format production. Consistent quality and efficient production are essential for profitability in this competitive segment.
Media Selection
Banner media selection depends on the application. Outdoor banners require UV-resistant substrates and inks. Indoor banners can use lighter-weight materials. Backlit banners require translucent media that allows light to pass through evenly.
Scrim vinyl is the most common outdoor banner substrate. The woven scrim provides tear resistance and dimensional stability. Weight ranges from 9 oz to 18 oz depending on the application.
Fabric banners provide a premium appearance for trade shows and indoor events. They can be printed on dye-sublimation or direct inkjet systems.
Finishing
Banner finishing typically includes hemming and grommet installation. Hemming reinforces the edges and provides a clean appearance. Grommets provide attachment points for hanging.
For shops producing high volumes of banners, automated hemming and grommet machines significantly reduce finishing time. Manual hemming and grommet installation is labor-intensive and a common production bottleneck.
Quality Control
Banner quality control should check color accuracy, print resolution, finishing quality, and dimensional accuracy. A consistent quality control process reduces customer complaints and reprints.
