Floor Graphics Production: A Complete Finishing Guide for Sign Shops
Floor Graphics Production: Finishing Guide
Floor graphics require specific materials and finishing processes to ensure durability, slip resistance, and clean removal. The finishing process is as important as the print quality in determining the longevity and safety of floor graphic installations.
Material Requirements
Floor graphic materials must meet specific requirements that differ from wall or window graphics. The substrate must be dimensionally stable under foot traffic and cleaning. The overlaminate must provide slip resistance that meets safety standards. The adhesive must hold securely on a variety of floor surfaces without leaving residue on removal.
Finishing Process
After printing, floor graphics require a slip-resistant overlaminate. This laminate must be applied without bubbles or wrinkles, as these create tripping hazards. A flatbed laminator provides the even pressure needed for consistent laminate application.
After lamination, floor graphics are typically cut to shape. Complex shapes require a flatbed cutter with optical registration to ensure the cut follows the printed design accurately.
Installation Considerations
Floor graphic installation requires clean, dry floors and proper surface preparation. The adhesive must be compatible with the floor surface material. For temporary installations, a removable adhesive allows clean removal without floor damage.
