Inkjet Media Storage and Handling: Best Practices for Consistent Print Quality
Inkjet Media Storage and Handling Best Practices
Improper media storage and handling is a common cause of print quality problems. Moisture absorption, temperature exposure, and physical damage can all affect print quality and adhesive performance.
Storage Conditions
Most inkjet media should be stored at 65-75°F and 40-60% relative humidity. Exposure to temperature extremes or high humidity can cause dimensional changes, adhesive problems, and print quality issues.
Media should be stored horizontally or vertically as specified by the manufacturer. Storing rolls on their ends can cause deformation.
Acclimation
Media should be acclimated to the print environment before use. Moving media from a cold storage area to a warm print room without acclimation can cause condensation and dimensional changes.
Handling
Avoid touching the print surface of media. Skin oils can affect ink adhesion and cause visible marks on the finished print. Use gloves or handle media by the edges.
