Vehicle Wrap Printing Production Guide: From File Preparation to Finished Install
Vehicle Wrap Printing Production Guide
Vehicle wrap production requires coordination between design, printing, lamination, and installation. Each step affects the quality of the finished wrap, and errors at any stage can result in costly reprints or installation failures.
File Preparation
Vehicle wrap files must be prepared at the correct size and bleed. Most wrap designs require 1-2 inches of bleed beyond the vehicle panel edges to account for installation overlap. Color profiles must be set correctly for the specific printer and ink combination being used.
Printing Considerations
Vehicle wrap films require specific print settings to ensure proper ink adhesion and color accuracy. Eco-solvent and solvent inks are most commonly used for vehicle wraps due to their durability and flexibility. The print must be allowed to outgas before lamination.
Lamination
Most vehicle wraps require an overlaminate for UV protection and durability. The laminate must be applied without bubbles or wrinkles. A flatbed laminator provides the most consistent results for large panels.
Cutting
After lamination, wrap panels are cut to size. Contour cutting around printed elements requires a flatbed cutter with optical registration. The CUTWORX USA Apex Series is designed for this application.
Installation
Proper surface preparation is essential for wrap adhesion. The vehicle surface must be clean, dry, and free of wax or silicone. Installation temperature affects adhesive performance.
